Advice for Worship Leaders #9 - Prophetic singing - Quality time

Prophetic singing - Quality time
When I was growing up the spirit of prophecy and prophetic singing was kind of ambiguous and random. I would go to a conference and see something and think, “That was the spirit of prophecy.” Then I would go to another conference and see someone else doing something and think, “Oh wait, now that’s the spirit of prophecy.”
No matter what it might or might not look like the Lord can be using someone and speaking through them. You could be standing there stoic just barely singing and the spirit can be going forth in power, or you could be showing it externally - either way the Lord can be speaking through someone.
So if what I do externally doesn’t make me prophetic, how do I become more prophetic? I believe the answer is clear: you have to know God. Sounds to simple to be true, doesn it? I'm not just talking about a onetime 'knowing', but a constant ongoing ever deepening relationship with Him. We must seek to continue to deepen our relationship with Him and find out who He is, what he’s like – His thoughts, feelings and emotions (Rev. 19:10).
Though this sounds simple it is not cheap and there is great cost involved. It is a cost however that everyone can afford because the cost comes in the form of time. Quality time with someone will equal a deepening of relationship with them. The amount of time that I invest in relationships with people in my life is the amount that I will truly know their heart and what they think and feel about things. The same is true in our relationship with the Lord. And if we commune with Him and get to know Him we will have much to say about Him.
So this means we should stop waiting for the heavy weight of the Holy Spirit to fall on us or for a prophetic vision to open to us (which I still pray for and want!) and set our faces like flint to know Him. The Lord is looking for friends – not just friends who know facts about Him or can spout theological points, but ones who truly know Him.
