Indwelling Spirit

Break off the funk

Do you ever feel like your passion and zeal for the Lord or vision for your life is a million miles away and a distant memory from yesterday? Do you ever wonder why many times you can go to bed feeling completely fine but then wake up just a few hours later feeling completely uninspired about your relationship with the Lord and somewhat despaired or confused about life in general?

These kinds of feelings and emotions are tricky because many times these feelings come from an attack of the enemy, or maybe unrepentant sin, or because the Holy Spirit is gently tugging on our hearts saying, “Hey, it’s been a while since you’ve talked to me and that’s why you’re feeling this way!” However, there are also time’s when we just feel that way simply because that’s the way life is!!

The war on the inside

Though I talk to the Spirit within because I love Him and He loves me, there is also another truth that we see talked about in the Bible - another reason why we're to commune with the Spirit. It's not rocket science that when we talk to someone on a consistent basis we will begin to love them more and more. And then as we begin to see this persons love for us, we're going to begin wanting to please that person and not give ourselves to other lovers.

16 Walk in the Spirit and you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh (Gal. 5:16)

My life in the Spirit

My own personal lack of talking to the Spirit as of late has caused me to write this post as I'm seeking to re-align my heart and life into the regular practice of talking to God. In many seasons of life things can get busy and we find ourselves not getting the personal prayer time that we used to get. Of course there are definitely times when I need to actually remove certain things from my life that are making me busy. Other times they're things that are seasonal - for example, preparing for a wedding! It's in the midst of this season that I'm reminding myself and hopefully encouraging you of the necessity of talking to the Spirit!

Born again. Into what?

One of the most common misconceptions is that the Holy Spirit is an ‘it’, or the Holy Spirit is simply a ‘power.’ The Holy Spirit is not an ‘it’ or a ‘power,’ He is a person. The Holy Spirit has much power and loves to demonstrate His power in and through us for His glory (Acts 1:8, Acts 3:12), but the Holy Spirit is equal with the Father and the Son in the trinity. As God, the Holy Spirit is worthy of worship, adoration, thanksgiving and honor, these things are due to Him just as the Father and the Son. We owe our salvation to the workings of the Father, the Son and the Spirit. Without the Holy Spirit, we would be bound to Hell (Jn. 16:7-11).

Christ dwelling on the inside

One of the most crucial and important aspects in the life of every born again believer is communing with the Holy Spirit. Or simply put – talking to God. God dwells inside of us and this is one of the most powerful realities that we can imagine, yet it is one of the most overlooked by most believers.

The Lord has been speaking to my heart a fresh in these recent days about the need for me to be connected to Him. Not only for what it can “do” for me, but what He longs to have with me – communion and an actual relationship. It is so easy for me to lose sight of the fact that God longs for relationship and to hear my voice, not just me reciting a prayer list to Him every day!
