Envy

Naomi Rizzo - Singer
Naomi grew up in Tallahassee, Florida and moved to the International House of Prayer at the end of 2005. Her desire is to love the Lord with all of her heart, soul, mind, strength and to be a living witness of the goodness of God and to see the Lord exalted in all the earth and receive the glory that is due Him.
Envy is an enemy of our soul and comparison a sharp knife that pierces into our perceptions of who we think we are. This affects every area of our life because we make it our identity and carry it around to other compartments of our heart!
I have learned many lessons in life about envy and comparison and still continue to learn in this constant battle. It is like a massive comparison web and the more you dwell upon who you think is better than you then the more and more webbed and delusional you get. The enemy uses comparison as a tool to fight against us with. If he can get us to compare ourselves then we are not grateful for what the Lord has given us and we will be paralyzed and not moving forward in faith, but rather slothfully stay back in fear. I admit that this is an area for me to continue to conquer and a place where the enemy had me gripped and bound for quite some time.
I was so fearful of what people thought and cared so much about messing up that I would just live in ungodly fear of stepping out. This is also directly related to pride. The reason why I say this is because even in my pursuit of stepping out my focus wasn’t on lifting the Lord’s name up, but rather about ME. What would people think? What if I cracked when I sang? What about if I sang a wrong note? Was my content artistic enough? Was it deep enough in the word? Sometimes you can get so locked up in your head with pride, fear, comparison and jealousy that you end up sitting in a boat of fear and then you get comfortable in that place of not moving forward and settle with the accuser of our soul, the one who lies all the time who can’t tell the truth. The devil is a liar!
One of the biggest ways to deal with envy-jealousy and comparison is to pray the prayer of 2 Corinthian 10:3-5 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ
Another helpful point is to pray for whoever you are jealous of and ask the Lord to give them more of Him, more revelation, more songs & that they would walk worthy of the calling etc! This is hard, but is an action of warring against your flesh by a simple prayer and acting in the opposite spirit of what you are feeling.
The one who comes to steal, kill and destroy wants strife and wants to disturb however he can and it is our responsibility to shut the door on the lies. I see it as a battlefield, but the good news we can win the battle by keeping in the fight!

Opposite spirit!
Love that advice. My pastor back home used to encourage us to do operate in an opposite spirit when what was manifesting was not godly. It just follows that if we envy someone else's gift and become jealous that we should pray for them to increase. Because in doing so we move from selfishness to servanthood; we operate as ministers instead of greedy individuals...
no more comparison webs!
