Mark grew up in Kenosha WI and moved to IHOP in July of 2008. His passion is running sound and studying the Bible. “Specifically in this season I have given myself to studying the book of Proverbs so I can resave the Wisdom of Solomon and apply it to my life “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge…..”  Prov. 1:7 My Life Verse: Ps. 27:1

“The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”

Not only is this verse in my favorite Psalm, it’s my life verse. The Lord gave this verse to me in 2005 while I was in Summer Teen Intensive (now called the Awakening Teen Camp). I was 15yrs old, very broken, and unsure of my salvation, but the Lord told me Psalm 27:1 is my salvation.

Through the words of this verse I have been able to always know who my light is in dark times and who my strength is when I’m weak. I have this verse memorized so wherever I am I know it’s written on my heart. Throughout all of Psalm 27 we can look back to verse one, that the Lord is our strength so why fear?  David was a king and was in many wars so when he says “though an ARMY may encamp against me, my heart shall not fear” that just points back to verse one. Then we see the desire in David’s heart to dwell with Him all the days of his life and to behold the beauty of the Lord. I love that David knew if he beheld the living God that he would be cared for in times of trouble and that God would hide him from his enemies. Out of that place David would cry out to God and seek His face that even though his mother and father forsook him God would take care of him and deliver him from his enemies.

In Psalm 27, David’s example of laying his heart out there for God to take, he is saying “I can’t do anything without Your help God, there is so much darkness around me that the only way to survive and that is to put all my trust in You because You are my light, my strength, and my salvation!  You, O Lord, are the one I can turn to; if I have You…of whom shall I be afraid?  When we put all our trust in the One true God we have nothing to fear because He will hide us in the secret place of His tabernacle and set us upon a high rock. Our heads shall be lifted above our enemies, so now we sing our praises to the Lord and give Him all the glory in our lives for He is everything.

God, I pray that You will be my everything.  That I can look to You in times of trouble and know that You are my salvation, my strength, my joy, my inheritance. I leave EVERYTHING behind and give You all of me for this is the only way that I can truly live on this earth. God I ask that You will be with me and never let me go. For me, hope means I’m holding on to You, Jesus, and grace means You’ll never let me go. Amen
