Psalm 115
Aletta Pena – Singer
I was born in Stavanger, Norway, but spent the majority of my growing up years in Houston Texas. In 2006 I moved to IHOP-KC with my family. My passion in life is that my ministry as a prophetic singer/musician, intercessory missionary, and a proclaimer of God’s word would flow from the foundation of being rooted and grounded in the love Christ, that I would have eyes to see, ears to hear, and a heart to perceive the word of the Lord.
Psalm 115
My favorite Psalms right now is chapter 115. The writer begins by declaring to the Lord, “Not to us, but to your name be the glory, for the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness.” The steadfast love of the Lord and his faithfulness is brought up time and time again throughout the psalms. We belong to a God who consistently loves with an everlasting love and whose affections are unceasing . . . from the place of receiving this unconditional love, we then lavish our praise and adoration upon him for we only love him because he first loved us. This revelation has pierced my heart, and I’m overwhelmed with emotion in the knowledge that God is faithful to pursue my heart, to humble himself so as to pour his love into me. This is why we love him.
As we read on, we consider all the other “lovers.” Idols who do not speak, do not hear, or smell. . .they do not walk. They make not a sound. Those who make for themselves idols , they became just like what they have made. The principle here, as my youth pastor once said, is, “You become what you behold with your eyes.” If you set your gaze at that which is dead, you will become dead. Oh that we would put our trust in the Lord. . .the one who is good! The God who is steadfast, who has feelings, the only real God, the only living God. I don’t know about you, but when I look upon Jesus I feel alive! Oh God, that you would cause us to behold your beauty!
The writer ends by blessing the name of the Lord. . . “But we will bless the Lord from this time forth and forevermore, Praise the Lord.” This person was looking unto the Lord and was provoked by love. Love had won his heart, therefore he declared to the Lord. . .we will bless you forever. Why do the heavenly hosts never stop saying “Holy Holy Holy is the Lord God almighty who was and is and is to come?” Because of love and because he IS forever and ever. Father I pray would you pierce our hearts with your love and your goodness, even deeper still. As we behold you in all of your splendor, as we gaze on the living and active God, provoke us to love once again because you are so worthy to receive all of our honor and glory and praise. Amen
